Imhotep Academy Summer Session I: High Powered Energy

Location: The Science House, Centennial Campus, Raleigh, NC

Cost: $25 for early registrations and $35 for late registrations

Description: Imhotep Academy introduces under-represented students (African-Americans, Hispanic, Native Americans, female) to chemistry, mathematics, marine, earth and atmospheric sciences, physics and statistics through laboratory experiments, research projects, classroom instruction and field trips. While teaching participants about the contributions of scientist and inventors from under-represented groups, Imhotep Academy builds self-confidence and self-esteem. Students in the Algebra Session rotate through three classes using Algebra as a tool for making sense of the world, solving problems, and modeling everyday numerical scenarios.

Session Theme: Middle school students (6-8) will blend fun and education while exploring the changing world of energy. Students will learn about the power grid supply, renewable energy, and sustainability. They will perform lab experiments, work in teams, tour an energy-related facility, and explore STEM careers. All programing will take place at The Science House on North Carolina State University’s Centennial Campus.
