Imhotep Academy Summer Session I: Adventures in Energy

Description: Imhotep Academy introduces under-represented students (African-Americans, Hispanic, Native Americans, female) to chemistry, mathematics, marine, earth and atmospheric sciences, physics and statistics through laboratory experiments, research projects, classroom instruction and field trips. While teaching participants about the contributions of scientist and inventors from under-represented groups, Imhotep Academy builds self-confidence and self-esteem. Students in the Algebra Session rotate through three classes using Algebra as a tool for making sense of the world, solving problems, and modeling everyday numerical scenarios.

Session Theme:

In partnership with and generously funded by Hitachi Energy, Imhotep Academy is excited to take students along for a unique and dynamic STEM experience where the future of energy meets the minds of tomorrow. Middle school students will embark on an immersive journey into the world of energy and sustainability. This session is specially designed to spark curiosity, inspire innovation, and foster a deeper understanding of how energy shapes our world. Learning concepts for this session include understanding circuits, solar energy exploration, smart metering, prototyping and design, coding for sustainability, and many more.
All programming will take place at The Science House on NC State's Centennial Campus.

*Imhotep Academy will observe Juneteenth on June 19th and will not have programming.
