Imhotep Academy: Disease Detectives: The World of Epidemiology

Description: Imhotep Academy introduces under-represented students (African-Americans, Hispanic, Native Americans, female) to chemistry, mathematics, marine, earth, and atmospheric sciences, and physics through laboratory experiments, research projects, classroom instruction and field trips. While teaching participants about the contributions of scientists and inventors from under-represented groups, Imhotep Academy builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
Session Theme:
Middle school students will learn about disease diagnosis, transmission, and prevention through hands-on investigations, mathematical models, and technology activities. Participants will explore the importance of vaccines and careers within the field of epidemiology. All programming will take place in Zoom.
Mandatory Orientation: Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 6:30 pm.
Cost: $150 is the cost. Payment plans and limited scholarships.
