Statistics Fellowship on Modeling of Rare Events

Two educators will be selected as fellows and will work with Dr. Huixia Judy Wang, Associate Professor of Statistics at George Washington University and Adjunct Professor of Statistics at North Carolina State University. The fellows will learn statistical techniques with the aid of software R (http://www.r-project.org/) for modeling and quantifying chances of events that are rare but have significant consequences, for instance, extreme weather, large portfolio loss and dangerously low birth weight.

Soil and Water Iron Microbes (SWIM) in North Carolina

An exciting opportunity exists for five AP Environmental Science teachers to integrate current environmental research topics into their classrooms. Teachers will work closely with Dr. Owen Duckworth and colleagues (http://duckworth.soil.ncsu.edu/) at the Department of Soil Science, North Carolina State University, to learning about how bacteria and metals interact in the environment.
