Description:
Literacy skills are a critical—yet often overlooked—part of science instruction. During this two day workshop educators will learn that literacy skills aren’t add-ons to the science class—they are critical parts of instruction. Participants will learn to use both literacy and science skills in our classrooms to prepare our students for the use of STEM in the future.
The workshop will be held at the NC State Center for Marine Sciences and Technology, 303 College Circle, Morehead City NC 28557 on January 23-24 2019 from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.
This course follows the NCDPI's guidance for the requirement for 1 CEU in Reading Instruction. in accordance with: G.S. 115C-270.30(b)(2) and will include evidence-based strategies to teach Oral language, phonemic and phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension shall be addressed in science literacy-related activities
