This summit brings together students, teachers, instructional coaches, and district leaders to connect, share ideas, learn from one another, and participate in interactive “think and do” sessions focused on bringing data science to life in classrooms and schools.

The Science House is looking for a small cohort of North Carolina middle school science educators to help us develop classroom-ready, research-based instructional units aligned with the NC Science Standards. We have the foundation and resources in place. Now we need thoughtful, creative classroom teachers to help us turn them into cohesive, practical units using modeling that we can share freely with science teachers across North Carolina.

This seminar helps science teachers replace text-heavy slides with powerful diagrams and data visualizations that stick in a student's memory. We will explore the cognitive science behind how our brains process images to reduce classroom "information overload." Participants will learn to "live-sketch" complex systems like cellular respiration or electric circuits to make invisible processes tangible.

NC State / Falls Lake

The AI Water Guardians project, led by NC State University and funded by the EPA Environmental Education Grant Program, puts cutting-edge AI tools — including Sentinel-2 satellite imagery analysis and graph neural networks — directly into the hands of students, teachers, and community members. Over 24 months, we will co-develop curriculum with K–12 educators, train educators, deploy a public AI dashboard for real-time water quality monitoring, and catalyze community stewardship actions at Falls Lake.

This 4-week paid fellowship is designed to immerse participating high school teachers in a university research environment while supporting the development of meaningful, classroom-ready instructional materials. We are seeking two high school teachers to work with our group and help develop a pilot Digital Technologies Academy (DTA) for high school students, where the co-developed activities will later be tested and refined.
