Imhotep Academy Summer Session – Neuroscience: The Human Brain

Cost: $150. Application fee is transferrable but nonrefundable.

Description: Imhotep Academy introduces under-represented students (African-Americans, Hispanic, Native Americans, female) to chemistry, mathematics, marine, earth, and atmospheric sciences, physics, and statistics through laboratory experiments, research projects, classroom instruction, and field trips. While teaching participants about the contributions of scientists and inventors from under-represented groups, Imhotep Academy builds self-confidence and self-esteem. Students in the Algebra Session rotate through three classes using Algebra as a tool for making sense of the world, solving problems, and modeling everyday numerical scenarios.

Session Theme: Middle school students will learn the skills it takes to be a neuroscientist through hands-on investigations, an engineering challenge, and research on brain diseases.  Participants will explore careers within the field of neuroscience. All programming will take place in Zoom. Registration opens February 1 and closes April 30th. A virtual program orientation will be held Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 6:30 pm.
