While teaching participants about the contributions of scientist and inventors from under-represented groups, Imhotep Academy builds self-confidence and self-esteem.

Session Theme:

The Marvel Comics movie Black Panther altered many peoples' perception of the relationship between Africa and technology. Using the movie as a creative starting point, current middle school (current 6, 7 and 8 graders) students will develop their own technological inventions designed to impact and improve lives on the African continent. A field trip to the Smithsonian African-American History Museum will also be an optional activity. Students will ask questions, think critically, and work together as a team at The Science House on North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus.
