Description:

This is a very special professional development opportunity for both formal and informal educators. Participants will receive a total of 20 contact hours for 2 CEUs in science education and completion of 2 Criteria 1 EE Certification workshops in GLOBE Hydrosphere and It's Our Water. Participants will arrive on Sunday afternoon and spend the evening doing hands on activities and enjoying networking and fellowship. We will be sleeping in group cabins, or you can pitch a tent and will spend our Monday enjoying the outdoors and participating in program activities.

It's Our Water- Join us as we dive into It’s Our Water! This North Carolina-specific water curriculum and resource guide is a great way to meet 8th grade hydrology standards and many High School Earth/Environmental Science standards in an engaging and hands-on way. IOW covers the importance of water quality, monitoring and maintaining water quality, and the impacts individual choices have on water quality. The curriculum centers around field activities in a local stream that lead to a final report and recommendations by the class. These activities are coordinated with a series of videos, demonstrations, classroom activities, homework and quizzes.

The first 10 registrations for this workshop will receive the It’s Our Water Curriculum on CD, the IOW DVDs, and the Healthy Water, Healthy People Field Monitoring as part of the 6 to 10 hour workshop. It’s Our Water is a Criteria I workshop for the NC Environmental Education Certification and consists of 6 to 10 contact hours that may count toward CEUs for teachers.

The training involves a 5 hour online module component (Globe Hydrosphere Protocol) along with a 5 hour face-to-face workshop.

This introductory module introduces GLOBE’s hydrosphere investigation area. You will learn why it is important to document and monitor the hydrosphere. You will be introduced to the different GLOBE protocols used to collect hydrosphere data. Step by step instructions for documenting a hydrosphere study site are outlined, as well as the steps you need to follow to report a new hydrosphere study site to the GLOBE database using GLOBE’s mobile data app.

Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an interdisciplinary water education program intended to supplement a school's existing curriculum. The goal of Project WET is to facilitate and promote the awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources through the development and dissemination of classroom-ready teaching aids and through the establishment of state sponsored Project WET programs.

Project WET offers the educator activity guides and modules designed for K-12 students. By using Project WET services and resource materials, young people will gain the knowledge, skill and commitment needed to make informed decisions about water resource uses and conservation.

Workshop $60.00 includes camping in cabins, meals and program materials.
