Game Design Challenge (Imhotep Academy)

June 20 - June 24

Video games and gamified learning are increasingly a part of our everyday lives. Students will learn the basics of video game coding and design to create their own unique STEAM-based gamified learning experience, then they’ll map that experience to a physical model. Participants will also get a chance to explore careers within the fields of computer science, engineering and game design while connecting to local gaming professionals.

Program Overview: Imhotep Academy is a year-round middle school enrichment program that introduces students to the world of STEM with a particular emphasis on reaching underserved and students historically underrepresented in STEM disciplines. Imhotep aims to increase students’ awareness and enthusiasm for learning STEM, build students’ confidence and identity in STEM, and inspire students to continue studying STEM throughout high school and college. Participants engage in a variety of activities including hands-on investigations, laboratory tours, field trips, leadership, college readiness, and interactions with STEM professionals.
